If you are as busy as I am lately, you’d know how hard it is to find the time to shop leisurely, let alone pick out the perfect outfit for the day. Have you ever gotten up one morning and experienced the dreaded “closet stare”? I sure have. Ironically, what should be some of life’s easiest things to do can actually turn out to be the most difficult. Outfits have the potential to influence the outcome of your entire day, so you must always choose carefully.

So, just consider me the fairy godmother of shopping, because I’m here to simplify the process by providing you with a list that will keep you feeling satisfied and well versed in trends for the New York City autumn weather. Keep in mind that these are major pieces that will carry you from day to night, as long as you pair them accordingly!

Here is my round-up of five favorite fall essentials (in no particular order) to keep an eye out for during your next shopping venture:

1. Leather/Waxed Pants or Jeans

leather pantsAh, I can never get enough of the leather trend. A great leather (or, preferably faux leather) pant is not everyone’s first choice, but a piece that can certainly work for anyone. They have become the new wardrobe essential to be embraced as a certified alternative to the skinny jean. They even come in a variety of colors, which makes them even more versatile and easy to wear. The good news is that you don’t need to be super tall or super skinny to wear them. All you need to do is find a good style that suits your frame, and you’ll look awesome.

2. Pointed Toe Shoes

pointed toesThis season, pointed toes come in all forms—from flats, to short boots, to heels. The trend emerged a bit over the summer, but has now come out full-swing as a must-have addition to your shoe collection. This silhouette has a more dramatic look compared to your average shoe, but it definitely makes a statement. On the plus side, pointed toe shoes also give your leg an elongated appearance. A shoe can make or break your outfit, so choose wisely by selecting the most on-trend silhouette at the moment, the pointed toe.

3. Military Jackets

The camouflage and military-inspired trend is really big this fall. More than ever before can military jackets be found at retail stores. Believe me, there are many reasons to be fans of the military jacket. Its stylishness and versatility from casual day-wear to upbeat nightwear makes it an instant classic. Its ease of use brings it right next to the moto and denim jacket, and will fit right in your wardrobe as an everyday fall piece.

4. Textured Slip-Ons

Slip-ons are bringing comfort back to footwear in an on-trend way. From leopard print to tartan (plaid), camouflage to distressed, any outfit, no matter how simple, will have an element of excitement. These slip-ons can be worn with pants, jeans, or more casual sweatpants. And don’t even think of ruling these out for nightwear; pairing them with flowy mini skirts can create an unexpectedly cool outfit. So, the next time you realize that you are on the market for some comfier shoes, definitely consider the slip-on.

5. Oversized Sweaters & Sweatshirts

One can never have enough oversized sweaters, and lately brands have been changing up this classic with wider varieties. Such updates include some structured silhouettes, higher necks, and eye-popping graphics. They can be paired with skirts, leggings, or any of the other essentials that I have previously mentioned. The possibilities of what you can do with these pieces are truly endless.

Well, there you have it. Follow this list and you’ll be able to reap the benefits of having the perfect, revamped fall wardrobe. Try it out…you’ll thank me later!
