UPDATE: 10:34 PM, Thursday, April 10, 2014– An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that a Twitter search had come up with the Twitter of Nahom Kidanemariam. A middle school friend of Kidanemariam emailed the Ram Realm that the Twitter account from the earlier version did not belong to Kidanemariam.
Fordham Security announced early Tuesday the deceased member of the Fordham community found yesterday at Lincoln Center was Nahom M. Kidanemariam, Gabelli ’09.
Kidanemariam was found dead Monday afternoon in a Lincoln Center bathroom. His body was found by a student, per security, who immediately reported it to campus authorities. The New York Daily News reports Kidanemariam “was suspended from the bathroom ceiling and is believed to have committed suicide.“
“Our hearts are broken today with the loss of this young, talented alumnus,” said Fordham President Joseph M. McShane, S.J. in a statement. “I cannot imagine his family’s pain, nor the sense of loss his classmates and friends are feeling. I know that the Fordham community joins me in holding Nahom’s family and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.”
According to a security alert sent out Tuesday morning, Kidanemariam majored in accounting at Fordham, and was on the football team. The football media guide lists him as a member of the 2006 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
Kidanemariam hailed from Ottawa, Ontario, but the University believes he was a resident of Manhattan at the time of his death. Security said it wasn’t clear why he was visiting the Lincoln Center campus.
